Our Tulips

Tulip Bulbs are our bread and butter. We were growing them on day one, in Holland, in 1926. In the decades following, we’ve been working hard on developing tulip blooms that last long, have bright and vibrant colors, and are strong and hardy. We want to provide high quality to our customers and make their experience with flowering bulbs as convenient and enjoyable as possible. That’s why we’re committed to breeding Tulips that grow well in your garden, and can last a long time as cut flower bouquets indoors. We’re proud of the sturdy and wind-resistant stems we offer, and the vibrant blooms that top them. We want our bulbs to represent Dutch Quality!

Where Tulip Bulbs Grow

Originally from Southern Europe to Central Asia, Tulips Bulbs have now been widely naturalized and cultivated around the world. They are originally adapted to grasslands and mountainous areas inside of temperate climates, but with their continuous breeding and the proper care, many varieties of tulips can be grown or forced throughout most of the world. For easiest Tulip growth, USDA Hardiness zones 3 – 8 are recommended; though, with proper care, you can also nurture them in zones 9 and 10. This area covers the vast majority of continental US.

What are hardiness zones? Ranging from 1 to 13, a hardiness zone is just the range of possible temperatures in a geographical area – specifically relating to plant growth. The lower the number, the colder the possible temperatures, and the higher, the hotter. Tulips need a colder period of time in order to induce blooming, this can affect when you plant your bulbs.

How to Plant Tulips Bulbs

Where to Plant: On all occasions, you want an area that offers good drainage. If you live in zones 3 to 8, you can plant in either full or partial sun. If you live in a zone warmer than 8, it is not recommended to plant Tulip bulbs, but if you do, you should plant in shade.

How to Plant: Individual bulbs can be spaced like eggs in a carton, just a little bit wider. Generally, you want to plant them about four inches deep.

When to Plant: Usually the time to plant Tulip bulbs is from November to December, but if you live in a warmer climate – for example zones 9 to 10 – you should wait until colder January temperatures.

Great healthy and large bulbs Ordered these on a Saturday evening, they landed on my porch Sunday morning and were in the ground by Sunday afternoon. Bulbs were large and healthy on arrival. In this business the warehouse or shipper can have a huge impact on quality.
